IBM is expanding its Power platform with new AI-powered operations software, an entry-level Power11 server and enhanced application development tools designed to help enterprises automate infrastructure management and modernize IBM i applications.
The announcement introduces IBM Power Autonomous Operations, an AI agent that monitors and optimizes Power environments, alongside the IBM Power S1112 server and the IBM Bob Premium Package for i, an AI-assisted software development platform for IBM i environments.
Together, the offerings reflect IBM’s broader strategy of embedding AI directly into enterprise infrastructure and application development rather than limiting AI to standalone business applications.
IBM Adds Autonomous IT Capabilities to Power Platform
IBM’s newest addition, Power Autonomous Operations, is designed to automate routine system management tasks across IBM Power environments.
The software continuously monitors infrastructure and uses an embedded AI agent that allows administrators to manage systems through conversational prompts rather than manual configuration.
According to IBM, the platform can identify and resolve capacity constraints up to 15 times faster than manual intervention while helping organizations optimize system performance and availability.
The software builds on IBM’s Power11 architecture, introduced last year with an emphasis on resiliency, automation and hybrid cloud deployment.
As enterprises deploy growing numbers of AI agents across their businesses, IBM argues that manual infrastructure management will become increasingly difficult to scale.
New Power S1112 Brings AI Capabilities to Smaller Deployments
IBM also introduced the Power S1112, a single-socket Power11 server aimed at organizations looking to run AI workloads in smaller on-premises environments.
The system includes Power11’s on-chip Matrix Math Acceleration technology, allowing enterprises to perform AI inference locally without relying exclusively on cloud infrastructure.
IBM said the server delivers significantly higher core performance than previous Power systems while improving energy efficiency, making it suitable for branch offices, midsize businesses and edge deployments where local AI processing is becoming increasingly important.
The company also announced a new IBM Power Expert Care Premium Essentials support tier exclusively for the Power S1112.
IBM Bob Expands AI-Assisted Development for IBM i
IBM is also enhancing application development on IBM i with the IBM Bob Premium Package for i.
The AI-powered development assistant is designed to simplify modernization of IBM i applications, particularly those written in RPG, a language that often requires specialized expertise.
The platform helps developers understand legacy code, generate documentation, interpret business logic and accelerate software modernization projects.
IBM said the goal is to broaden the number of developers who can maintain and modernize IBM i environments while reducing onboarding time for engineers who are new to the platform.
The company cited early customer deployments that reported faster understanding of complex legacy applications.
AI Embedded Across Enterprise Infrastructure
The announcements demonstrate IBM’s broader vision of embedding AI agents directly into enterprise infrastructure rather than treating AI as a separate layer.
Instead of focusing solely on chatbots or productivity assistants, IBM is applying AI across infrastructure operations, application development and system optimization to reduce administrative overhead while improving resiliency.
