GeoComputing Expands RiVA Private Cloud With New Malaysia Support Center

GeoComputing Group is expanding its private cloud operations in Southeast Asia, deploying its RiVA platform for a major exploration and production company in Malaysia while establishing a new support center in Kuala Lumpur.

The expansion gives GeoComputing its fourth worldwide support location, joining existing operations in Houston, Aberdeen and Perth.

For GeoComputing, the move is about more than geographic expansion. The company is betting that energy companies running demanding geoscience applications still have a strong case for specialized private cloud infrastructure, particularly when performance, data sovereignty and industry-specific support take priority over the flexibility of general-purpose public cloud platforms.

RiVA Heads to Malaysia

GeoComputing said its RiVA platform and private cloud services have been deployed at a large Malaysian exploration and production company.

RiVA is purpose-built for petro-technical workloads, where companies routinely need to process enormous datasets through computationally intensive geoscience applications.

The company says its architecture can reduce processing jobs that previously took days to a matter of hours.

That performance matters in an industry where seismic analysis, reservoir modeling and other geoscience workflows can put significant pressure on both compute and storage infrastructure.

RiVA also incorporates disaster recovery capabilities intended to provide business continuity and improve data resilience.

Private Cloud Makes Its Case

Public cloud has become the default answer for many enterprise infrastructure projects, but specialized workloads do not always fit neatly into that model.

GeoComputing is positioning RiVA around precisely that gap.

The company offers a single-tenant private cloud model in which hardware and software resources are dedicated to an individual customer. GeoComputing manages the platform, while customers can connect over the internet or private data links.

That approach can also address data sovereignty requirements that may make certain public cloud deployments more complicated.

A multi-tenant option is available for smaller operators. Customers maintain partitioned storage pools along with dedicated servers and workstations while sharing enough infrastructure to reduce overall costs.

Specialized Infrastructure for Specialized Workloads

The larger story here is the continued specialization of enterprise cloud infrastructure.

Energy companies do not simply need generic virtual machines and storage. Petro-technical teams work with enormous datasets, specialized applications and performance requirements that can make infrastructure architecture a meaningful part of operational productivity.

GeoComputing is trying to combine the service model associated with cloud computing with infrastructure specifically designed around those workloads.

The Kuala Lumpur operation adds another piece to that strategy.

GeoComputing already operates support centers in North America, Europe and Australia. Adding Malaysia strengthens its ability to provide regional assistance while maintaining its follow-the-sun support model.

Asia Pacific Becomes a Bigger Opportunity

Asia Pacific remains a strategically important market for the energy industry as industrial development, manufacturing, transportation, petrochemicals and expanding digital infrastructure continue to support energy demand.

Malaysia is also pursuing greater technology-driven modernization, creating an opportunity for infrastructure providers capable of combining high-performance computing with localized services.

GeoComputing plans to continue building its regional presence, including appearances at Gastech in Bangkok in September and APGCE in Kuala Lumpur in November.
