Databricks Launches Genie One for AI Agents and Business Data

Databricks has expanded its enterprise AI platform with Genie One, an AI-powered coworker designed to help business teams automate workflows, analyze enterprise data and coordinate work across multiple business systems.

The announcement also introduces Genie Ontology, a new enterprise context layer that continuously learns from organizational data, along with Genie Agents and Genie App Builder, new tools that enable organizations to create reusable AI agents and business applications governed through Databricks’ Unity Catalog.

Together, the updates represent Databricks’ latest effort to move enterprise AI beyond conversational assistants and toward AI systems capable of executing business processes using trusted organizational data.

Genie One Connects AI to Enterprise Data

Unlike traditional AI assistants that rely primarily on documents or language models, Genie One is designed to work directly with governed enterprise data.

The platform connects structured and unstructured information from Databricks and external business applications, allowing employees across finance, marketing, sales and operations to ask questions, generate reports, automate tasks and coordinate workflows.

Databricks said Genie One is available through web, iOS, and Android applications and supports interactive dashboards, charts, scheduled tasks, alerts, and workflow automation.

New Ontology Aims to Improve AI Accuracy

At the core of the platform is Genie Ontology, a continuously updated context layer that builds a model of an organization’s business by collecting information from enterprise data sources, workplace applications, and AI tools.

The system integrates with more than 50 enterprise platforms, including Google Drive, Slack, Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.

According to Databricks, the ontology allows AI agents to retrieve answers from governed business data instead of relying on fragmented documents or incomplete context, helping improve response accuracy while reducing latency and AI processing costs.

The company argues that missing business context remains one of the largest obstacles preventing enterprise AI from moving beyond pilot deployments.

New Tools Expand Enterprise AI Development

Databricks also introduced several new capabilities designed to simplify AI application development.

Genie Agents allow organizations to convert conversations into reusable AI agents that retain instructions, business context, and workflow knowledge for repeated use across teams.

Genie App Builder provides a managed development environment that enables organizations to generate enterprise applications connected to governed data using natural language prompts.

The company said applications created through Genie App Builder inherit Unity Catalog permissions and governance controls, helping organizations maintain security and compliance while deploying AI-powered business applications.

Databricks also announced updates to Genie Code, an AI assistant for data engineering workflows, along with Genie ZeroOps, an autonomous agent that monitors data pipelines, machine learning models and other AI assets.

Enterprise AI Moves Beyond Chatbots

The latest announcements reflect a broader industry shift toward AI systems capable of completing business tasks rather than simply answering questions.

Databricks positions Genie as an “agentic coworker” that combines enterprise data, governance, and workflow automation to help organizations make operational decisions based on trusted business information.

The company says organizations can use the platform to support financial analysis, sales pipeline management, operational reporting, and application development while maintaining centralized governance over enterprise data.

“Most enterprise AI today is just guessing with false confidence,” said Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and CEO of Databricks. “If you’re a CFO and AI can’t tell you why margins changed… that’s not an AI problem, that’s a context problem.”

The Bottom Line

As enterprises continue adopting generative AI, many organizations are discovering that the quality of AI outputs depends heavily on access to accurate business data. Databricks’ Genie platform focuses on addressing that challenge by grounding AI agents in governed enterprise information instead of disconnected documents or isolated knowledge bases. The approach reflects a growing trend toward agentic AI platforms that combine automation, governance, and enterprise data management to support real business operations.
