Render Networks has named technology industry veteran John Sullivan chief technology officer as the company looks to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence across its critical infrastructure platform.
Sullivan will lead technology, architecture and software delivery while helping scale Render’s engineering organization as the company expands its AI capabilities.
The appointment follows Render’s growth investment and acquisition of mPower Innovations and puts an executive with more than three decades of technology experience in charge of the company’s next phase of platform development.
AWS Experience Comes To Critical Infrastructure
Sullivan’s background spans startups, growing technology companies and large global organizations.
His previous roles include CEO and CTO positions as well as Head of Solutions Architecture and CTO for ISV & SaaS at Amazon Web Services, where he worked with software companies on modernization and growth.
At Render, that experience will be applied to a different problem: using AI to improve the execution of large-scale infrastructure projects.
Render provides technology used by fiber, broadband and electric operators to plan, construct and manage infrastructure using verified operational data.
ClearWay Pushes AI Into Execution
A major focus for Sullivan will be the continued expansion of ClearWay, Render’s agentic AI layer built on Databricks.
Rather than limiting AI to analysis or recommendations, Render designed ClearWay around governed AI agents capable of validating work, guiding decisions and acting on real-time field data.
The strategy reflects a broader shift taking place across enterprise AI.
Organizations are increasingly moving from assistants that answer questions toward agentic systems capable of participating directly in business processes.
For infrastructure operators, that could mean using AI to identify field problems, validate completed work or recommend corrective action before issues create delays further downstream.
Scaling The Engineering Organization
Sullivan will work alongside Chief Product & Partnership Officer Rob Laudati, who leads Render’s product strategy and market direction.
The division gives Sullivan responsibility for strengthening the technology and engineering foundation required to deliver the company’s AI roadmap.
That becomes increasingly important as agentic systems move into infrastructure environments where decisions can affect physical assets and expensive construction programs.
AI agents operating in those environments need reliable data, governance and auditable decision-making rather than simply generating plausible responses.
